Muda calls for an end to selective political prosecution

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) has called for an end to selective political prosecution.

A statement by the party said this practice was used to tarnish people’s reputation and former party president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was among those who were now at the receiving end of this practice.

“This practice has been used for personal gain and tarnishing the reputation of innocent individuals.

“Muda believes that the selective political prosecution against Syed Saddiq will receive a proper justice,” the statement said.

Yesterday, Syed Saddiq, who is Muar member of parliament, stepped down as Muda president, effective immediately.

This followed the Kuala Lumpur High Court decision on the same day to sentence him to seven years’ jail and two strokes of the cane for charges of abetting criminal breach of trust (CBT), misappropriation of property and two counts of money laundering.
