Marry widows instead to help raise their children, suggests social media

PETALING JAYA: Many have criticised Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (pic) over his recent comments on polygamy in Parliament.

On social media, some expressed shocked at the PAS deputy president’s comment urging Muslim men to marry more than one woman to solve the late marriage issue, saying he could have discussed more pressing matters like the rising cost of living.

“Very degrading… Can’t believe such words to come from a Parliamentarian,” wrote Facebook user Brian LS Ong on Wednesday (Nov 22).

On X, Suraya Aziz (@Suraya4Aziz) noted that more important things could have been discussed in Parliament.

“(He should have) talk(ed) about issues like unemployment among undergraduates and youth, creating new job opportunities, helping working women, taking care of young ones and quality nurseries with affordable fees.”

Cassmari (@X1986Ari) wrote on X, “The cost of living is super expensive now. If a man marries more than one wife, he has to equally provide for all wives and the children. Again, Equality.”

Jiji (@Jiji8526) questioned how many wives the Kubang Kerian MP has and said it would be better move for Muslim men to marry widows and help raise their children.

Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin also slammed Tuan Ibrahim for his remarks, saying that it was sexist.

She said that women should not be deemed “problematic” for being single, adding that this is the right and personal choice of each and every woman.
