GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued 146 summonses for various offences under the Integrated Motorcycle Ops held in conjunction with the New Year celebrations at Lebuhraya Datuk Dr Lim Chong Eu (E-Gate).

The state JPJ said 315 motorcycles were inspected during the operation, which was carried out with the assistance of the police, from 1am to 5pm yesterday.

“Of the motorcycles inspected, 110 riders were issued summonses for various offences, such as riding without a licence, expired road tax, no insurance coverage, fancy registration number plates and unauthorised motorcycle modifications.

“The operation aimed to ensure motorcyclists and pillion riders comply with the existing traffic laws and regulations and ensure they do not modify their machines for illegal racing or mat rempit activities,” the state JPJ said in a statement, Bernama reported.

A total of 15 Penang JPJ personnel and 20 policemen were involved in the operation.
