Johor Immigration nabs 16 foreigners in Batu Pahat and Segamat

JOHOR BARU: Sixteen foreigners from four countries have been arrested in a series of raids in Batu Pahat and Segamat.

Johor Immigration Department director Baharuddin Tahir said that its Batu Pahat and Segamat enforcement units carried out the operation on Tuesday (Jan 9) and Wednesday (Jan 10).

“Several areas in the two districts were raided following a tip-off about foreigners working here without valid permits or passes.

“Those arrested during the raids are eight from Myanmar, Pakistan (four), Indonesia (two) and Vietnam (two),” he said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 11).

He added that eight women and eight men were arrested, aged from 20 to 37.

“They were arrested under Section 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for not adhering to the conditions of their passes, Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act for failing to present any travel documents and Section 15(1)(c) of the same Act for staying in the country longer than allowed,” he said.
