JOHOR BARU: Only 8.9% of the people in Johor have registered with the Central Database Hub (Padu) system, says Statistics Department (DOSM) Johor director Mazreha Ya’akub.
He said that of the total population of over 2.76 million aged 18 and above, only 246,850 have registered with Padu as of Friday (Feb 2).
He said Johor Baru and Kulai have the lowest number of registered users in the state while Segamat and Kota Tinggi were among the highest.
“The main reason for the slow registration in Johor Baru is the ‘wait and see’ attitude of people in the city,” he added.
Mazreha said there is a need to beef up publicity for the programme, particularly among the elderly community in rural areas.
“Some of them do not have social media or access to the system,” he said.
On this, he said the department had opened up 87 Keluarga Malaysia Digital Economic Centres in the state for Padu registration.
“The public can also visit the district offices and DOSM branches in Johor Baru, Muar, Kluang and Batu Pahat for the purpose,” she told reporters at the MIC Johor Ponggal Family Day at Hutan Bandar Mutiara Rini here on Saturday (Feb 3).
Also present at the event were MIC vice-president Datuk M. Asojan, Johor MIC chairman R. Vidyananthan and Johor tourism, environment, heritage and culture committee chairman K. Raven Kumar.
