Black panther caught in Sungai Siput

IPOH: A black panther has been captured near Felda Lasah in Sungai Siput.

Perak environment committee chairman Teh Kok Lim said the animal, believed to be a female and about four years old, was caught in a trap on Saturday (Feb 3) morning

“The trap was set up by the state Wildlife Protection and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) on Nov 20 last year following complaints about wild animal attacks on cattle in the area.

“The panther is healthy but has some injuries on its head, believed to have been caused after she was caught into the trap.

“It weighs an estimated 30kg,” he said in a statement.

Teh said the National Wildlife Rescue Centre had been contacted about the captured feline.

“Perhilitan has suggested for the animal to be released in the Gerik Forest Reserve,” he said.
