Cops nab 41 foreign women during vice sweep at entertainment centre in JB

JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested 41 foreign women who were working as guest relations officers (GROs) at an entertainment centre in Taman Sentosa, here.

Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar said the arrest was made during a raid by the Anti-Vice Gambling and Secret Societies Division (D7), Criminal Intelligence Branch (D4), and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) special investigation (D9) unit.

“The raid was conducted on Sunday (Feb 4) at 2.15am where 202 individuals were inspected.

“From there, 45 people were arrested, including 41 foreign women, for working as GROs at the entertainment centre.

“We have also arrested four men who acted as the centre captain, assistant manager, cashier, and photographer,” he said in a statement here.

Comm Kumar added that all of those arrested were aged between 22 and 43.

“19 local men, five local women, and 31 foreign women were also tested positive for methamphetamine, ketamine, and benzodiazepines,” he added.

The case was being investigated under Section 11(2) of the Johor Entertainment Places Enactment for operating an entertainment centre beyond the allowed time.

It was also investigated under Section 55B of the Immigration Act of 1959 for hiring foreign workers without a permit, Section 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations of 1963 for abuse of social visit passes, and Sections 6(1)(c) and 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act of 1959/63 for overstaying and entering the country without valid travel documents.

They were also investigated under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1952 for drug abuse.
