Delivery rider who set fire to auxiliary police car wanted TikTok fame, says cop

PETALING JAYA: The delivery rider who set an auxiliary police car on fire says he did it for higher ratings on TikTok.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said this was the motive behind the suspect’s actions.

“The suspect tested positive for morphine, and our investigations revealed that the suspect has worked as a delivery rider for three years,” he said when contacted on Thursday (Feb 15).

He said police also seized a bottle believed to have contained petrol, which was used to set fire to the police car.

It was earlier reported that a delivery rider was arrested for allegedly vandalising a bus stop before setting an auxiliary police car on fire.

The incident occurred at the Mutiara Damansara MRT station in the wee hours of Thursday.

Initial investigations revealed the suspect had also vandalised a bus stop wall.

A video of the burning car had been posted on TikTok.

The five-second video had the caption “puas hati bakar kereta polis” (satisfied after burning a police car) and showed a man clad in a black t-shirt wearing a helmet and posing with a peace sign.
