Four arrested in Ampang for posing as cops, robbing foreigners

AMPANG: Four men were detained for allegedly posing as policemen and robbing foreigners of their cash and belongings in Jalan Pandan Indah here.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said the victim, a Bangladeshi man, was at home when six men, who were wearing vests came to his house at about 9pm on Thursday (Feb 22).

“The six men, who brought various tools, told the victim that they wanted to conduct an operation.

“The victim and seven other foreigners were told to sit in the living room while being guarded by two of the suspects.

“The other suspects proceeded to ransack the house and took cash, jewellery, mobile phones and personal documents belonging to the foreigners.

“They then left the area in a vehicle,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Feb 24).

The victim lodged a police report soon after, he added.

“Investigations led police to arrest four men aged between 30 and 44 years old in Kuala Lumpur between 1.30pm and 9.30pm on Friday (Feb 23).

“We also seized 31 mobile phones, vests with the words ‘Polis’, various tools, cash and three cars,” he said.

The suspects’ modus operandi is to pose as policemen and target houses occupied by foreigners before robbing them, ACP Mohd Azam said.

“Three of the suspects have prior criminal records.

“All of them tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine and opiate,” he said.

The suspects have been remanded until Friday (March 1) for further investigation, he said.

“We are investigating under Section 395/297 of the Penal Code for gang robbery and Section 170 of the same code for posing as a public officer,” he said.
