Anwar earns praise for speaking up on Palestine issue

PETALING JAYA: International and local figures have lauded Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over his stern remarks in defence of Palestine.

“We have reached a point where the Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim now speaks for the majority of the world’s people and not a European or western leader,” said British-American journalist Mehdi Hasan on his X account on March 14.

Hasan was referring to a joint-press conference between Anwar and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Monday (March 11).

During the press conference, Anwar had criticised Western countries for the lack of commitment against the atrocities happening in Gaza by Israel.

“Why this hypocrisy? Why this selective and ambivalent attitude towards one race and another? Is it because they are coloured or they are of a different religion?,” Anwar said.

Former New Zealand All Blacks player Sonny B Williams quoted a viral clip of the press conference, stating “Mashallah @anwaribrahim speaking facts.”

Swedish-Lebanese singer Maher Zain also expressed thanks to the premier for speaking up on behalf of Muslims from all over the world.

Former law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim also applauded Anwar for his vocal stance for Muslims.

“Humanity is now one step closer to Mars, thanks to Elon Musk. Malaysia is now one step closer to being the voice of the Islamic world, thanks to Anwar Ibrahim.

“It’s never easy to counter Islamophobia, whether domestically or in the Universal marketplace, but Anwar is trying,” he said on X platform.
