Cops record statements from 10 over murder of baby

JOHOR BARU: Police have called up 10 witnesses in their investigation into the case where a baby boy was allegedly murdered by his mother in Pasir Gudang.

Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar said they had also recorded statements from the suspect’s husband and neighbours.

“The 32-year-old woman was charged with murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code on March 21.

“However, the court has ordered the suspect to be sent to Permai Hospital for psychiatric evaluation under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code,” he said when met by reporters after attending the state-level 217th Police Day 2024 celebration at Dewan Dato’ Onn here on Monday (March 25).

Comm Kumar added that the evaluation could take between one and three months.

“We will see her progress for one month and see if there is a need to extend it to three months,” he said.

A police report was lodged about the death of the one-year-old at around 1.30pm on Saturday (March 16).
