Cabinet congratulates new Singapore Prime Minister ahead of swearing-in ceremony

PUTRAJAYA: The Cabinet has congratulated Lawrence Wong on his appointment as Singapore’s new Prime Minister.

Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said the Cabinet meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Wednesday (May 15), had issued a congratulatory message to the island republic’s incoming prime minister.

“The Cabinet congratulates Lawrence Wong on his appointment,” said Fahmi.

Wong is expected to take the oath of office on Wednesday night.

Wong, 51, succeeds Lee Hsien Loong, 72, who had served as premier since 2004.
