Undang Luak of Rembau laid to rest

REMBAU: The Undang Luak of Rembau, Datuk Lela Maharaja Datuk Muhamad Sharip Othman was laid to rest in the Kampung Mungkal Sepri Cemetery here at 7.20pm on Wednesday (May 15).

His body was bathed and shrouded at around 1pm Wednesday at the surau of his official residence here, after which final respects were paid by dignitaries and the public.

Funeral prayers were performed at around 5pm, led by the Mufti of Negri Sembilan, Assoc Prof Dr Faudzinaim Badaruddin, before the body was taken to the cemetery at 5.50pm.

Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, also graciously paid his final respects to the deceased.

Among those who also paid their final respects were the Undang Luak of Sungai Ujong, Datuk Klana Petra Datuk Mubarak Dohak; Undang Luak of Jelebu, Datuk Mendika Menteri Akhirul Zaman Datuk Maarof Mat Rashad; Undang Luak of Johol, Datuk Johan Pahlawan Lela Perkasa Setiawan Datuk Mohd Jan Abdul Ghani; as well as Tunku Besar of Tampin, Tunku Syed Razman Tunku Syed Idrus Al-Qadri.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun and several State Executive Council members, department heads and government officials were also present.

Muhamad Sharip, 83, passed away at around 9am at his official residence due to old age.

Born on Aug 14, 1941, in Kampung Waris Tebat, Chembong Kecil, he was appointed as the 21st Undang Luak Rembau on Nov 21, 1998.

He and his late wife, Tok Puan Siti Ramalah Yunus, are survived by five sons. – Bernama
